Arsenal,Chelsea,Liverpool and Manchester United- Super (Duper) Sunday betting
As you know Sunday is very very important day…no not Easter (although I hear it’s ex-West Ham chairman EGGert Magnússon’s most favourite day of the year). Yes it’s the big one, Grand Slam SUPER Sunday as Sky Sports call it: Man Utd v Liverpool and Chelsea v Arsenal, although you already knew that right??
Experts are saying that it’s a three horse race for the Premiership crown, so it looks like they are effectively ruling out a late surge from Paul Jewell’s Derby County…. On to the matches now and for me as a neutral, the game I would take a close look at is the Chelsea match. Avram Grant hasn’t lost many matches as Chelsea manager but the ones he has lost have been big games: Arsenal, Man Utd in the league and Tottenham and Barnsley in the Cups. So this really is a big test for him, can he pull it off in the big games like Mourinho and get the points ?? Â
My betting tip: Chelsea haven’t lost at home since 2004, but Arsenal were the last team to beat them, the unbeaten home record will definelty be tested, these type of games are hard to work out, so if you feel you have to bet, then I would go for a sneaky 1-1 and 2-2 score draw bets (at the odds 7.2 and 20.0 on Betfair).Â
Liverpool have at last found the form that everyone expected them to display throughout the WHOLE season, they will be determined to stop Manchester United from closing in on the title, on top of looking over their shoulder to ensure Everton don’t beat them to the fourth spot. Manchester United on the other hand will be hoping it’s business as usual for Christiano Ronaldo, it’s in big games like these that he has to prove he is world class. No doubt Liverpool will be keeping a close eye on Ronaldo and his dancing feet, so this could open up more space for Wayne Rooney to take advantage of during the match. I expect quite a close encounter, Liverpool haven’t scored against Man Utd in the last six league games.Â
My Betting tip: I’m tempted to go for the draw here again, but I’ll take a risk and say Manchester United to win the game (2.12 odd on Betfair). Put a saver bet on the scores being 1-1 and 2-2.
Banter’s Sum up:  When the top 4 play each other it’s always going to be an interesting affair, without a doubt these Super Sunday games are MASSIVE, BUT no matter what happens, the Premiership title won’t be decided this weekend. What it will do is give any winners a pschological edge and a morale boost for the title run in.  There will still be 8 games left, with alot of points to play for, points will be dropped and there’s still alot of drama in store……well it is the Premiership!!!
UPDATE- One WINNER (Manchester United to win) and one LOSER (Chelsea match to draw 1-1 or 2-2, so so close for the correct scoreline).  Super Sunday turned out to be super after all, six goals in total, a sending off and Jamie Redknapp having a big argument with Andy Gray on Sky Sports!! Manchester United will be happy with the 3-0 scoreline and the sending off definitely helped them in this game.Â
In the Chelsea vs. Arsenal match (the most interesting game for me), Avram Grant proved that he could make the big decisions (and correct) to win the games against their biggest rivals. On 70 minutes Ballack and the Chelsea fans were cursing Avram Grant’s substitute decision (what a load of Ballacks!!!), but this proved to be the turning point in the game. He can win the big games after all, but from the reaction of the Chelsea fans during the game, it looks like he will never be the special one.
